The Israeli government has approved a sweeping $15 billion investment in national rail infrastructure, marking the largest single transportation investment in the country's history. The plan includes new high-speed rail lines connecting Beer Sheva to Haifa, expanded commuter rail service in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, and modernization of existing stations.

Transportation Minister Miri Regev called the plan "a transformational moment for Israeli mobility," noting that the expansion will reduce travel times between major cities by up to 40 percent.

Key Components

The expansion includes three major elements:

  • A new high-speed corridor from Beer Sheva to Haifa with speeds up to 250 km/h
  • Doubling of track capacity on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem line
  • Construction of 12 new stations in underserved communities

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first new lines operational by 2032. The project is expected to create over 50,000 jobs during the construction phase.
