Israel is advancing plans to construct a hospital on Israeli territory that will serve Jordanian patients as part of the Jordan Gateway, a joint Israeli-Jordanian industrial park near the border city of Beit She'an. The facility is being designed as a regional medical center with a focus on oncology and advanced cancer treatment. The concept envisions a medical center where patients from Jordan and potentially other countries in the region can cross into Israel to receive treatment at a facility purpose-built for cross-border healthcare delivery. Officials have described the hospital as a potential "center for cancer treatment, so that people from Jordan or further away could come and receive treatment," leveraging Israel's advanced medical expertise. The Jordan Gateway industrial park will enable Israelis and Jordanians to cross between sides to work on joint projects, representing one of the most ambitious cross-border economic cooperation initiatives in the region. The hospital component is seen as a flagship element that could generate significant goodwill while also creating an economic engine for the Beit She'an area, which has historically lagged behind central Israel in development. The project builds on Israel's existing medical tourism industry, which generates billions of shekels annually. Israeli hospitals, particularly in oncology, cardiology, and fertility treatment, attract patients from across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. The dedicated cross-border facility would formalize and expand these patient flows while reducing logistical barriers for Jordanian patients who currently travel to hospitals in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, or Haifa.
