Israel's largest solar energy project has received final planning approval, with construction set to begin in the Negev desert near Ashalim. The 2-gigawatt facility will combine photovoltaic panels with concentrated solar power (CSP) and battery storage, creating a 24/7 renewable energy source capable of powering 400,000 homes.
The project, developed by a consortium of Israeli and international energy companies, represents a NIS 8 billion ($2.2 billion) investment and is a cornerstone of Israel's commitment to reach 30% renewable energy by 2030.
Innovation in Storage
What sets this project apart is its integrated storage solution. A 500-megawatt battery facility and molten salt thermal storage system will allow the plant to deliver power around the clock, addressing one of solar energy's key limitations.
